El tema central es la discusion de la solucion que da hobbes al problema de la legitimacion de la obligacion politica, como parte del tema fundamental de la modernidad: el de la relacion individuo y sociedad. La tesis denuncia una contradiccion logica insalvable en la teoria de hobbes: presentar como necesario para el cumplimiento y realizacion del pacto social la existencia de un poder que se generaria precisamente en virtud de ese pacto, lo que implicaria un circulo vicioso. Dicho de otro modo: lo fundamentado (el poder del soberano) aparece como fundamento (el miedo, la coaccion) de lo que se fundamenta (el pacto social). Ello supone, ademas, abrigar la sospecha de que la relacion individuo-sociedad (el problema del poder) sea racionalmente imprensable e injustificable sin contradiccion \u00abdesde\u00bb los
