Los microorganismos aislados corresponden a dos eubacterias, una mesofila y otra termofilo moderada, y a una arquebacteria termofila extrema. El microorganismo mesofilo corresponde a una cepa de la especie thiobacillus ferrooxidans, mientras que los otros dos microorganismos aislados corresponden a especies no descritas.  los tres microorganismos tienen interesantes propiedades que los hacen ser potencialmente utiles en procesos de biolixiviacion. Entre estas propiedades, destaca, por parte del microorganismo termofilo moderado, la capacidad de oxidar preferentemente los sulfuros de cobre frente a otros sulfuros presentes en el mismo
