Con estas construcciones se han transfectado diversas lineas celulares con el fin de estudiar propiedades diferenciales (estructurales y funcionales) de las citoqueratinas epidermicas suprabasales. Las queratinas epidermicas suprabasales (k1+k10) son incapaces de formar estructuras citoesqueleticas normales en ausencia de un citoesqueleto de queratinas preexistente.
