Los resultados indican que tras la inyeccion de la endotoxina (lipopolisacarido, lps de e. Coli), existe un aumento en la capacidad de adherencia y fagocitosis, en la liberacion de tnfa y de especies reactivas de oxigeno, asi como en la capacidad quimiotactica. La valoracion del estado redox en macrofagos y linfocitos de ratones balb\/c con shock endot\u00f3xico letal demostro que existe un desbalance entre el contenido de oxidantes y las defensas antioxidantes a favor de los primeros lo que manifiesta un estr\u00e9s oxidativo. Asi, los niveles de acido ascorbido y glutation reducido (gsh) estaban disminuidos al igual que la actividad de la super\u00f3xido dismutasa y la catalasa. Por su parte, el da\u00f1o lipoperoxidativo (niveles de malondialdehido) aparece aumentado y el factor de transcripcion nf-kb se encuentra activado en dichas celulas. Ambos tipos celulares tienen un papel fundamental en el desarrollo del shock endot\u00f3xico y en el estr\u00e9s oxidativo e inflamatorio que los acompa\u00f1a. La utilizacion de antioxidantes como el acido ascorbido y la n-acetilcisteina (nac) pudo modular tanto las funciones comentadas como los parametros redox. Asi, en estudios in vitro, ambos antioxidantes modulan todas y cada una de las funciones inmunitarias estudiadas llevandolas a valores proximos a los controles sanos. El antioxidante nac in vivo a un concentracion de 150 mg\/kg 30 minutos despues de la inyeccion de lps modula las distintas funciones tato de macrofagos como en linfocitos, asi como el estado redox de ambos tipos celulares. Este efecto parece deberse a su capacidad scavenger y a la regulacion de la activacion del factor de transcripcion nf-kb.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3>Datos acad\u00e9micos de la tesis doctoral
