La primera parte explica las redes neuronales utilizadas para la clasificacion desde el punto de vista estadistico, y se identifican dos tipos generales de redes, dependiendo de si estas estiman las fronteras entre clases adyacentes, o bien si aproximan areas en la que una cierta clase es predominante. En la segunda parte de la tesis se propone una arquitectura especifica para la emulacion de redes neuronales del primer tipo, y en concreto, para las redes compuestas por perceptrones multi-capa y su entrenamiento. La aplicacion de esta arquitectura se extiende a otros tipos de redes:  perceptrones multi-capa con realimentacion, redes totalmente conexas, redes para el procesado digital de imagenes y los modelos ocultos de markov.  en la tercera parte de esta tesis se propone una arquitectura distinta para el segundo tipo de redes neuronales.
