La tesis estudia la formacion de la teoria de la abstraccion en el ambito de la pintura y su repercusion en la teoria general de las artes:  especialmente en la formacion de la arquitectura suprematista y en la relacion entre musica y pintura en el expresionismo. Por otro lado, la division de la estructura de la tesis refleja el interrogante sobre la divergencia fundamental en las primeras formas pictoricas: lo que usualmente se ha llamado abstraccion expresionista y abstraccion geometrica. Asi como la continuidad en el desarrollo de la abstraccion expresionista a traves de la liberacion de la gestualidad explorada por los poetas y pintores surrealistas.
