El trabajo se ha llevado en paralelo en sus dos facetas experimental y analitico-numerica.  en su parte experimental se han realizado ensayos de fractura estable de vigas de pmma por flexion en tres puntos.  tambien se han hecho ensayos de traccion simple para caracterizar el material y poder ajustar los modelos de comportamiento estudiados. Por ultimo se han efectuado ensayos de penetracion con el fin de corregir las desviaciones del ensayo de flexion respecto del ideal originadas por el aplastamiento en los apoyos.  los resultados generados por el trabajo experimental se han analizado a la luz de dos modelos de fractura, uno lineal y otro no lineal que se han combinado con otras dos teorias de comportamiento del material base, la elasticidad lineal y la viscoelasticidad. La conclusion mas importante es que se puede caracterizar la fractura del pmma mediante un modelo de fractura elastica lineal, con un valor constante de kic. Asi mismo la zona final de los ensayos guarda un buen acuerdo con lo previsto por dicha teoria. Por otra parte el modelo de fractura viscoelastica no encaja con el comportamiento del pmma ya que este material muestra una tendencia inversa a la esperada cuando variamos la velocidad de
