El aumento de trafico sobrecargara la via que debera conservarse mejor a costes razonables.  el volumen de informacion necesario lleva a tratar la conservacion como un sistema de gestion integrada, con un alto nivel de informacion.  el sistema trata la via, en su estado actual, para convertirla en otra, dentro de tolerancias preestablecidas, el algoritmo utilizado compara la geometria de cada momento con las tolerancias y produce una relacion de trabajos a realizar, en tramos determinados e indica las prioridades con absoluta objetividad.  la reparacion del material de via, o su sustitucion son tenidas en cuenta, llegando hasta la renovacion total.
