Las limitaciones asociadas a los sistemas numericos tradicionales dificultan el procesamiento de se\u00f1ales en tiempo real. La tesis se dedica fundamentalmente al desarrollo de nuevas estructuras basadas en el sistema numerico de residuos (rns) para procesamiento digital de se\u00f1ales de altas prestaciones. En concreto, se proponen nuevas estructuras de procesamiento de im\u00e1genes digitales para los nuevos estandares de codificacion. Estas nuevas propuestas demuestran ser mas rapidas que las basadas en los sistemas numericos convencionales y tienen un elevado interes por sus directas aplicaciones multimedia e internet. Se ha dado especial enfasis a las transformadas discretas coseno y a la transformada discreta wavelet por sus numerosas aplicaciones en el campo del procesamiento de im\u00e1genes y video. La tesis incluye un exhaustivo analisis de los sistemas desarrollados y una comparativa con las estructuras clasicas. Este analisis se ha realizado utilizando dispositivos logicos programables y dos tecnolog\u00edas vlsi  cmos basadas en celdas estandar. Los sistemas desarrollados han demostrado ser mas rapidos que los sistemas tradicionales con una complejidad comparable o incluso inferior.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3>Datos acad\u00e9micos de la tesis
