Podria estar en una situacion de hipotiroidismo central. La disminucion de hormonas podria deberse en parte a su transferencia hacia el feto. En situacion normal, se transfiere un 17,5% de t4 de la madre al feto.  las hormonas tirodeas se siguen transfiriendo incluso cuando los niveles maternos en el plasma son excesivos, por lo que la placenta no es una barrera infranquable.  niveles normales de t4 materna, protegen el cerebro del feto de una deficiencia de t3.  incluso cuando la t4 materna es excesiva, la t3 cerebral del feto sigue siendo normal. La t3 plasmatica materna no pasa al cerebro fetal, solo cuando la madre recibe dosis tan altas de t3 que la t3 plasmatica en el feto aumenta 8 veces por encima de lo normal, pasa esta al cerebro.  la diabetes materna afecta mucho al estado tiroideo y a las actividades desyodasas del feto, en una fase del desarrollo en la cual una deficiencia en t3 cerebral puede tener efectos negativos.  nuestros resultados podrian ser validos para el hombre y aconsejarian el control de las embarazadas y la administracion de t4 (y no de t3) en caso de bajos niveles de t4 libre, sin miedo a da\u00f1ar el
