Se dedica una atencion especial al analisis que ocupa los tres primeros capitulos y se apunta hacia direcciones posibles de seguir mediante el analisis historico y teologico (cap. Iv).  el analisis literario busca sobre todo las fuentes de este material evangelico, con especial enfasis en aquellas pericopas que pueden ser mas reveladoras de la vida de la sagrada familia. Esta dividido en tres apartados: un primero, dedicado a las relaciones entre los procedimientos literarios de los sinopticos en el tratamiento de sus fuentes (cap. I: los evangelios de la infancia y las fuentes sinopticas); un segundo, que estudia el relato de mt 1-2, tanto en el contexto del primer evangelio como en sus peculiaridades propias (cap.  ii: las fuentes de mt 1-2); y un tercero que desarrolla la misma investigacion para lc 1-2 (cap. Iii: las fuentes de lc 1-2). El enfoque de la investigacion de las fuentes consiste en la consideracion de una hipotesis de trabajo que admita, para los pasajes mas intimamente conectados con la familia de jesus, una fuente familiar. El trabajo concluye a favor de la aceptabilidad de esta hipotesis y defiende la posibilidad de que maria haya estado en el origen del relato de mt 1-2, y de la pericopa del reencuentro en el templo (lc 2,41-52), aunque estos textos provengan de distintos \u00absitzen im leben\u00bb.
