Se realiza el recuento y cariometria de las neuronas del hipocampo, se comparan los resultados con los obtenidos en un grupo de control y se analizan estadisticamente. El resultado ha sido una disminucion significativa del numero de neuronas y del area nuclear de las mismas, asi como la aparicion de vacuolas en fornix y cuerpo calloso en las ratas que recibieron diacepam. Estas ratas presentaron una mejor tolerancia al paso de la corriente electrica, presentando, en cambio, las del grupo de control un comportamiento autoagresivo y desorganizado que las impidio encontrar la salida del laberinto. Se puede extraer la conclusion de que la administracion cronica de diacepam produce muerte neuronal y disminucion del area nuclear en el hipocampo, asi como importantes cambios en el
