Se ha intentado penetrar en el significado del abandono, en las consecuencias soteriologicas del mismo y en las posibles causas que han llevado a los distintos autores que se estudian a dar su interpretacion.  este trabajo tiene dos partes claramente delimitadas. La primera recoge las interpretaciones de los autores medievales que hemos escogido:  s. Anselmo, s. Bernardo, pedro lombardo, santo tomas, s. Buenaventura, dums scoto, juan taulero, sta. Catalina de siena, s. Bernardino de siena, dionisio de rickel. La segunda parte estudia la interpretacion de los reformadores protestantes; lutero, melaochthon, calvino; y esboza la reaccion de la interpretacion catolica estudiando a suarez y s.
