Dos formas de evidenciar cuales son estas propiedades son la atrofia del organo diana inervado y la separacion del soma neuronal de la periferia mediante la seccion axonal. En este trabajo se ha estudiado el efecto de ambas maniobras experimentales sobre las propiedades electricas neuronales. Frente a una ausencia de cambios como consecuencia de la atrofia, la seccion axonal o axotomia induce un elevado numero de cambios derivados no solo del deficit trofico, sino tambien del efecto de la lesion celular y de la puesta en marcha de los mecanismos regenerativos. Como consecuencia de la axotomia el cambio mas llamativo ha sido la aparicion de una nueva conductancia, que hemos caracterizado como una corriente de cloro dependiente de calcio, y que es indetectable en las celulas controles.  estas celulas lesionadas sufren ademas una alteracion en la homeostasis del calcio intracelular. El estudio de niveles de calcio intracelular durante el reposo y la actividad electrica mediante el uso de la sonda fluorescente indo-1 ha permitido detectar que el manejo del calcio se encuentra enlentecido en las celulas lesionadas, aunque tanto los niveles basales como los alcanzados con la actividad no son diferentes de los controles. Una posible causa del enlentecimiento de los cambios de calcio puede encontrarse en el incremento de los niveles de una proteina quelante de calcio, la calbindina, cuya elevacion hemos demostrado mediante el uso de anticuerpos.  la aparicion de una conductancia nueva responsable de despolarizaciones de larga duracion y el manejo enlentecido del calcio tienen lugar en celulas muy afectadas por
