Para ello se ha desarrollado el siguiente esquema de trabajo:  preparacion de los adsorbentes, para ello el carbon activado de partida se somete a tratamiento a distintas atmosferas y en diferentes condiciones de calentamiento, caracterizacion de las muestras, en lo referente a su composicion, estabilidad de los grupos superficiales y textura, y finalmente estudio de la retencion de los iones hg2+, cd2+ y pb2+ desde el punto de vista cinetico y de equilibrio. La conclusion mas importante a la que se llega es que los tratamientos efectuados al carbon de partida permiten incrementar la capacidad de rentecion del material frente a los iones hg2+, cd2+ y
