El isoenzima de 160 kda se expresa en respuesta a la microaerobiosis por si sola, mientras que la expresion del isoenzima de 200 kda requiere la presencia simultanea de condiciones microaerobicas y nitrato. Estos 2 isoenzimas son necesarios para la utilizacion microaerobica del nitrato ya que la ausencia de uno cualquiera de ellos resulta en la incapacidad de b. Japonicum pj17 para crecer en tales condiciones. El isoenzima de 160 kda. Se compone de 3 subunidades de tama\u00f1o molecular 116, 68 y 56 kda., mientras que el isoenzima de 200 kda, que se disocia en 2 posibles isoformas activas de 120 y 160 kda., Cada una de las cuales se compone de 4 subunidades de 116, 68, 59 y 56 kda. Ambos isoenzimas contienen grupos fe-s y molibdeno; no habiendose detectado la presencia de citocromos tipo b. Las cepas mutantes obtenidas, deficientes en el metabolismo del nitrato, tienen una menor eficiencia relativa de su nitrogenasa en simbiosis con plantas de soja, debiendose este efecto a la mayor
