La arquitectura propuesta se basa en el paradigma de pizarra, permitiendo la actuacion integrada de modulos algoritmicos convencionales para la obtencion de datos de entrada y simulacion de la planta mediante modelos numericos, modulos de logica borrosa para la validacion de sensores, modulos de razonamiento basado en reglas para el diagnostico local de problemas y modulo de redes bayesianas para el diagnostico global de la planta. Una especial atencion a los problemas del interfaz de usuario en conjuncion con una nueva estrategia de desarrollo (orientada a \u00abmaqueta\u00bb) completan la propuesta. La arquitectura presentada en esta tesis ha sido probada mediante la realizacion de una aplicacion industrial real que ha sido instalada y esta actualmente en produccion, con unos resultados en
