Analogamente a lo que sucede con los nuevos materiales superconductores de alta tc, la estructura cristalografica y propiedad del sistema dependen de las variables x e y. Con el fin de lograr un control riguroso de esta ultima, se ha realizado un minucioso estudio termogravimetrico del sistema que ha permitido establecer la existencia, en dicho sistema, de hasta cinco estructuras cristalograficas diferentes, derivadas del tipo estructural k2nif4. El estudio de dichas estructuras, se realizo mediante difraccion de rayos-x, difraccion de electrones y microscopia electronica de alta resolucion.  por otra parte, se ha abordado el crecimiento de cristales de materiales superconductores para lo cual, en primer lugar, se ha construido un horno de crecimiento de cristales por el metodo de flujo.
