El trabajo esta dividido en siete capitulos.  el primero reune algunos datos biograficos de este importante escenografo que nacio en 1890, en alemania. En el a\u00f1o 1914 se traslado a espa\u00f1a y se dedico hasta su muerte, en 1980, a vestir los estrenos mas importantes dentro de la historia escenica espa\u00f1ola de las ultimas decadas.  el segundo capitulo presenta algunos aspectos generales de su trabajo escenografico. Los siguientes capitulos se dedican a los estrenos con datos de la puesta en escena, fotografias de la representacion y fotografias de los bocetos. En la investigacion estan catalogados alrededor de 300 montajes que burmann realizo en 70 a\u00f1os, en los que colaboro con cerca de 90 directores artisticos.
