Esta glicoproteina se expresa fundamentalmente en el estado promastigote, se inserta en la superficie del parasito mediante un residuo fosfatidilinositol y sus propiedades antigenicas son sensibles a la accion de agentes reductores.  en algunas especies de leishmania, la expresion celular de gp46\/6-11 se encuentra restringida a una determinada subpoblacion de promastigoses y se traduce en polipeptidos de distinto tama\u00f1o molecular.
