El marcaje con 3-diazo-2,7-naftaleno disulfonato inhibe la interaccion de c1q con inmunocomplejos (ic), pero no es especifico de la region globular de c1q, marcandose entre otros residuos la tyr a62. La modificacion quimica de residuos de his con depc y de arg con pgo y ciclohexanodiona (chd) indica que unicamente la modificacion con chd es especifica de los sitios receptores de ic en c1q, influyendo las otras modificaciones en otras funciones de c1q. La modificacion de 4 o 5 residuos de arg en c1q con chd inhibe la interaccion con ic, sin afectar la formacion de c1 ni la conformacion general de la molecula. La digestion enzimatica y aislamiento de los peptidos del c1q modificado con chd permite identificar las argininas modificadas: a162, b114, b129 y c156. Ademas se modifican las argininas a16 o b163 o las dos.  las argininas modificadas de la region globular se concentran en dos zonas de la secuencia de c1q, b114-129 y a162-(b163)-c156. Los estudios de prediccion de exposicion al solvente y comparacion de secuencia sugieren que son los residuos de la zona a162-(b163)-c156 los implicados en el reconocimiento de la inmunoglobulina
