El estres agudo provoca un aumento de la secrecion de gonadotropinas, mientras que el estres prolongado provoca un descenso de los niveles plasmaticos de dichas hormonas. Parece logico pensar que esta diferente respuesta hormonal ante la distinta duracion del periodo de estres este mediada por distintos mecanismos.  esta bien establecida la relacion antagonica que existe entre el eje hipotalamo-hipofiso-adrenal y el gonadal. Tanto la crh como los opioides inhiben la secrecion de gonadotropinas.  sin embargo, no esta claro si el efecto inhibidor de la crh sobre la lhrh es directo o si dicho efecto esta mediado por la activacion de una via opiacea. Por otro lado, se ha observado que durante el estres agudo aumenta el recambio de catecolaminas centrales que podria ser el responsable del aumento de la secrecion de gonadotropinas que tiene lugar durante el estres. Nuestros objetivos son: evaluar el papel de las catecolaminas en la respuesta de gonadotropinas al estres agudo y analizar la implicacion de la crh y\/u opioides endogenos en los efectos inhibidores del estres sobre la funcion gonadotropa.  nuestros resultados muestran que las catecolaminas juegan un papel activador de la secrecion de lh durante los primeros minutos de estres, efecto mediado por receptores adrenergicos.  en cuanto al estres cronico, el aumento de la liberacion hipotalamica de crh altera la secrecion de lhrh y secundariamente la secrecion hipofisaria de gonadotropinas.
