Cuando el organo es reperfundido, se generan especies reactivas de oxigeno (radicales libres) que interaccionan con numerosas moleculas celulares comprometiendo la integridad estructural y funcional de las celulas afectadas. Estos factores negativos se consideran actualmente como responsables de la irreversibilidad del da\u00f1o por isquemia-reperfusion.  en nuestro trabajo hemos podido confirmar estos aspectos, comprobando ademas la importancia de la duracion de la isquemia en la irreversibilidad del organo da\u00f1ado, despues de su reperfusion. Se hizo tambien una aproximacion experimental a fin de conocer como afecta la isquemia-reperfusion otros procesos hepaticos como su capacidad de regeneracion o la generacion de peroxidos lipidicos por la ingesta cronica de etanol.  por ultimo se hizo un estudio comparativo del efecto de la pentoxifilina como protector hepatico durante la isquemia-reperfusion del higado obteniendose resultados
