Esos antigenos se expresan, de forma transitoria, en las celulas aliadas de la codea de la rata desde los 18 dg hasta los 9 dp. Esta expresion parece estar influenciada de alguna manera por la presencia de fibras nerviosas contactando con dichas celulas aliadas (resultados obtenidos a partide de cultivos organotipicos de otocisto con y sin reseccion ganglionar parcial) y por la hormona tiroidea (dadas las alteraciones oobservadas en el desarrollo de animales hipotiroideos congenitos). Ademas, se detecta la presencia de una lectina endogena en las celulas del surco espiral interno y del surco espiral externo, y de sus azucares especificos en la porcion apical de las celulas aliadas.
