Estudia el papel desempe\u00f1ado por la obra de al-gazali como catalizador de las corrientes ascetico-misticas presentes en la zona en ese momento, asi como la actividad de los principales difusores de su obra (ibn al-arabi). Tras pasar revista a la evolucion del sufismo durante la epoca almoravide, se aborda en la segunda parte el papel social de los maestros sufies y las primeras cofradias que surgen en la region durante la etapa almohade y primera epoca marini. Destacamos, sobre todo, el peso politico que ejercieron los grupos de inspiracion sufi en la fase de transicion entre estas dos formaciones politicas. La tercera parte esta consagrada al estudio del fenomeno religioso conocido como \u00abveneracion de los santos\u00bb, cuyas principales se\u00f1as de identidad (peregrinaciones populares, culto a
