Estos materiales son en su mayor parte carbonaticos y representan una gran variedad de ambientes deposicionales fluviales (llanura costera), perimareales y marinos someros. La definicion de las diferentes facies se ha basado en la interpretacion de texturas, estructuras y geometrias sedimentarias, asi como en la distribucion y paleoecolog\u00eda del contenido fosil. Se han diferenciado cuatro secuencias deposicionales de tercer orden: secuencia compuesta thanetiense (thanetiense medio-superior), secuencia de serraduy (base del ilerdiense inferior), secuencia de ager (ilerdiense inferior) y secuencia de llimiana (ilerdiense medio). La sct esta formada por ocho secuencias de cuarto orden sedimentadas en una rampa carbonatica de influencia mixta en la que dominaba la actividad de los sistemas fluviales intracuencales durante las bajadas relativas del nivel del mar y el comienzo de las subidas, y la de sistemas carbonatico-evaporiticos durante la culminacion de las subidas. Los carbonatos perimareales presentan evidencias de una intensa diagenesis temprana relacionada con la presencia de evaporitas, incluyendo perfiles paleokarsticos y revelando una historia compleja de
