Xvi, especialmente en la relacion conflictiva de estas representaciones con la iglesia. Esta primera parte, meramente introductoria, cimenta el cuerpo de investigacion propiamente dicho: el estudio y analisis de las representaciones de mu\u00f1ecos en portugal a lo largo del s. Xviii. En su desarrollo, el autor trata de discernir y clarificar aspectos como: las distintas variantes operadas con mu\u00f1ecos; el estado de la cuestion sobre la etimolog\u00eda de bonifrates (de uso exclusivo portugues para denominar figuras artificiales); la relacion beneficencia-espectaculos de titeres a traves de la fiscalizacion ejercida por el hospital real de todos los santos sobre todo tipo de representaciones teatrales y las implicaciones de estas ultimas con la opera italiana.
