Por formacion de una urea intermedia; a traves de una tiourea y a partir de diferentes halogenuros.  en la tercera alternativa y utilizando el halogenuro, cloruro de bencilo, se ha obtenido el producto final con un rendimiento mayor que en el proceso de sintesis utilizando actualmente en la industria para la produccion de ranitidina, la cual presenta problemas de contaminacion ambiental como consecuencia del desprendimiento de metilmercaptano, que con este nuevo metodo se pueden evitar mas facilmente.  posteriormente se han sintetizado doce analogos de ranitidina por modificaciones en la estructura de dicha molecula, introduciendo diferentes sustituyentes.
