Se ha observado noc 4321 en 21 cm hi, j=1 0 co y h  y usado datos de la literatura para m51. De un analisis de la eficiencia de formacion de estrellas masivas (msfe) siguiendo los brazos principales de estas galaxias, se muestra que la msfe es mayor en los brazos que entre los brazos por un factor promedio de 2 a 3, y que la formacion estelar en los brazos es estimulada. En el caso de m51, la razon brazo\/interbrazo de la msfe ( ) muestra un patron simetrico y bien definido, indicando que un mecanismo global, probablemente un sistema de ondas de densidad, organiza la formacion estelar en el disco. Noc 4321 carece de un patron similar, y   es constante a lo largo de los brazos. La ausencia de un patron simetrico en   puede ser relacionado con la presencia de una barra en noc 4321. Se nota una anti-correlacion similar entre la presencia de una barra y de simetria en otras galaxias de gran dise\u00f1o que hemos estudiado en h . Se presenta evidencia de que en m51 y noc 4321 gran parte del hidrogeno atomico en el disco de la galaxia se forma probablemente por fotodisociacion del hidrogeno molecular por la radiacion de las estrellas jovenes y masivas. Se encuentra que el disco en hi de noc 4321, que coincide, en general, con el disco optico, tiene una extension hacia el suroeste, que puede ser causada por una aproximacion de la compa\u00f1era noc 4322.
