La purga de fango se realiza por extraccion directa con el medio soporte, por lo que trabaja en regimen tansitorio de crecimiento de biomasa.  se extrae la parte del sistema (etapa del rbc) con mayor espesor de biomasa.  esta se sustituye por otra etapa limpia (sin biopelicula) o se avanzan, siempre aguas arriba, las etapas posteriores, colocando limpia la ultima etapa.  el fango extraido se deja escurrir y secar, consiguiendo una deshidratacion primero y una desecacion despues, consiguiendo fangos con un porcentaje del 90% en materia seca. Esto permite la reutilizacion o evacuacion directa del fango, simplificando su tratamiento.  se estudian los rendimientos de depuracion obtenidos, la viabilidad funcional y la estabilidad del afluente
