Este deficit puede ser aminorado por un correcto tratamiento pero no previene el desarrollo de las complicaciones que aparecen a consecuencia de la hiperglucemia cronica.  el objetivo de este trabajo fue el estudio de una serie de parametros bioquimicos que se encontraban alteradosde manera precoz en diabeticos no insulin dependientes o tipo ii.  los parametros que analizamos fueron los siguientes:  1) niveles de fructosamina en suero de pacientes diabetcos tipo ii.  2) niveles de transferrina en suero de pacientes diabeticos tipo ii.  3) diversas actividades enzimaticas en hematies de pacientes diabeticos tipo ii y hematies de animales de experimentacion con diabetes y prediabetes inducida con estreptolotocina.  llegamos a las siguientes conclusiones:  1) la fructosamina, entendida como conjunto de proteinas glicosiladas del suero, es un buen indicador del control de la glucemia en el diabetico y parece un parametro mas sensible y mas preciso que la hemoglobina glicosilada.  2) la transferrina, proteina del suero que transporta el hierro, se encontro modificada en los pacientes diabeticos tipo ii. La causa de esta modificacion no fue objeto de nuestro estudio.  3) la actividad aldosa reductasa se encuentra modificada en hematies, en el estado diabetico, pero no ocurre asi en hematies de animales de experimentacion en estado pre-diabetico, donde no se han encontrado variaciones claras.  4) la actividad acetil-colinesterasa, enzima posiblemente implicada en el desarrollo de la neuropatia diabetica, se encontro aumentada en estados diabeticos y pre-diabeticos de animales de experimentacion. Tambien se examino el efecto que producia el acido beta-hidroxibutirico, in vitro, sobre la actividad acetil-colinesterasa en hematies de sujetos sanos y se observo que la actividad enzimatica era
