Para alcanzar este objetivo se ha utilizado un modelo experimental in vitro consistente en el registro de la tension isometrica desarrollada por arterias aisladas en un ba\u00f1o de organos.  los resultados obtenidos en nuestros experimentos sugieren que tanto las arterias umbilicales como las cerebrales dependen del ca2+ extracelular para ejercer su contraccion. Esta afirmacion se basa en los siguientes hallazgos: por un lado, las arterias ven disminuida su respuesta en un medio sin ca2+ y en presencia de farmacos bloqueadores de la entrada de ca2+. Ademas, estos farmacos relajan las arterias previamente contraidas. Por otro lado, la concentracion de mg2+ del medio modifica la respuesta contractil de las arterias, aumentando en ausencia del ion, y disminuyendo cuando la concentracion del mismo se encuentra elevada.
