Cada mutante esta afectado en un unico gen y su analisis ha permitido deducir varias etapas relacionadas con el proceso de sintesis y estructuracion del glucano en la pared celular. El estudio de estos mutantes ha permitido localizar las posibles dianas de estos antibioticos en sistemas alojados o directamente relacionados con la membrana plasmatica. Asi mismo se ha podido comprobar que el efecto de tales antibioticos en cepas sensibles es un bloqueo de la estructuracion del glucano en la pared celular, por lo que un mejor conocimiento del modo de accion de estos antibioticos asi como de la arquitectura molecular de la pared celular permitiria el empleo de posibles nuevos farmacos mas eficaces in vivo frente a infecciones
