De forma previa a este desmantelamiento se produce la movilizacion selectiva de hasta el 50% del contenido de ribulosa-1,5-bisfosfato carboxilasa\/oxigenasa (rubisco) del cloroplasto, consecuencia de la existencia de un incremento en la velocidad de degradacion del enzima y del bloqueo de su sintesis. De forma paralela a la degradacion selectiva de la rubisco se detecta un incremento en el grado de oxidacion del enzima, y la asociacion de dicha rubisco oxidasa a la fraccion membranosa celular. El tratamiento in vitro de rubisco purificada de euglena gracilis con agentes que causan la oxidacion de grupos cys condujo tanto a la inactivacion del enzima como al incremento de su susceptibilidad proteolitica, siendo ambos procesos reversibles mediante el tratamiento con agentes reductores. La incubacion del enzima en tampones redox cistamina\/cisteamina permitio concluir que las cys criticas cuya oxidacion da lugar a la susceptibilizacion proteolitica son distintas y mas oxidantes que
