Los cuatro primeros capitulos del trabajo estan dedicados a estudiar la configuracion y los avatares por los que ha pasado el museo, a fin de conocer la realidad de los sucedido en el tiempo con los fondos pictoricos, la materialidad de la coleccion, los cambios de emplazamiento en el pasado y la verdadera dimension de las destrucciones o perdidas sufridas.  el estudio de todas las pinturas,- mas del medio millar-, sea cual sea su naturaleza o su tecnica, que se guardan en el museo hasta junio de 1993, ocupa el capitulo quinto, y constituye el segundo bloque del trabajo. En el se recogen todas las circunstancias fisicas y externas hasta ahora disponible de las obras, muchas de ellas tomadas por vez primera en consideracion.  la coleccion abarca desde principios del siglo xv hasta la decada de los ochenta del presente siglo. Ofrece unos fondos muy heterogeneos y de procedencia diversa, que no se corresponden con una elevada calidad de conjunto.
