(Sequencing batch reactor) es una tecnica avanzada alternativa para el tratamiento de aguas residuales que permite, ademas de la dqo, la eliminacion de n y p (nutrientes) debido al importante impacto medioambiental que estos provocan.  al ser un sistema discontinuo que opera mediante ciclos constituidos por diferentes etapas (llenado, nitrificacion, desnitrificacion, sedimentacion y vaciado), las posibilidades de operacion (tipos de ciclos) resultan amplias al variar el tiempo de cada una.  aplicando este sistema al tratamiento de aguas residuales urbanas, este trabajo se ha centrado en la eliminacion de c y n; estudiandose la nitrificacion y la desnitrificacion (sin adicion de sustrato organico) utilizando diversos tipos de ciclos cuya diferencia esencial ha sido la duracion de las distintas etapas.
