Amiloride y su analogo hexametileneamicoride redujeron la liberacion de compuestos tritiados en la preparacion.  este efecto fue secundario a la inhibicion del enzima monoamino oxidasa y no a interacciones de estos farmacos sobre la liberacion de dopamina o receptores modulatorios de la misma. El peptido neurotensina, por el contrario, incremento la liberacion de dopamina mediante la activacion de canales del calcio tipo n, in vivo e in vitro. Este efecto fue mayor en zonas somatodendriticas (substancia negra) que en zonas terminales (nucleo estriado) mediante liberacion directa de dopamina y un incremento en el numero de despolarizaciones neuronales.  neurotensina potencio los efectos liberadores de dopamina de la estimulacion electrica y por potasio. Neurotensina produjo una pesensibilizacion rapida a sus propios efectos (tolerancia), pero no modifico la funcion de receptores dopaminergicos o el sistema de recaptacion para la
