El alga cryptomonas phaseolus es el principal responsable de la fotosintesis oxigenica, actividad que represento el 32% de la fijacion de carbono diaria durante la estratificacion. La poblacion activa de las bacterias rojas disminuyo conla profundidad y fue maxima durante el invierno. La fijacion de carbono en la oscuridad fue la actividad autotrofica mas importante en este sistema. En esta actividad participaron bacterias rojas del azufre amoebobacter sp. Chromatium y otras morfolog\u00eda bacilar sin identificar. A partir de los datos de maxima incorporacion de carbono por fotosintesis oxigenica y anoxigenica se estimaron tiempos de duplicacion medios de 83 horas (4-217 h) y de 36 horas (3-324 h) para c.  phaseolus y las bacteriasrojas del azufre respectivamente. Un estudio comparativo realizado en otros sistemas estratificados mostro que en tales sistemas intervienen otros mecanismos de fijacion de carbono alternativos a la fotosintesis oxigenica, asociados a la interfase oxigeno-sulfhidrico.
