Los dos genes (asnasa1 y asnasa2) poseen una estructura compuesta por 4 exones y 3 intrones. Esta estructura es similar a la encontrada para otros genes que tambi\u00e9n codifican asparraginasas en varias especies de lupinus. La similaridad entre la asnasa1 y la asnasa2 de a.Thaliana es del 65,6%, siendo de los dos el gen asnasal, el que presenta una mayor homolog\u00eda con los genes de asparraginasa de lupinus.  el an\u00e1lisis de los promotores de asnasa1 y asnasa2 muestra que existe un predominio de sitios que pueden ser reconocidos por factores de transcripci\u00f3n que regulen la expresi\u00f3n de estos genes de luz. Por otra parte, el an\u00e1lisis del genoma de a.Taliana utilizando las secuencias de asnasa1 y asnasa2, ha dado como resultado la existencia de otros dos posibles genes (asnasa3 y asnasa4) que presentan zonas de homolog\u00eda con asparraginasas. Asnasa3 tan solo presenta homolog\u00eda con otras asprraginasas en el centro activo, mientras que asnasa4 posee una alta homolog\u00eda con glicosilasparraginasas de insectos y mam\u00edferos.  teniendo en cuenta la estructura descrita para la glicosilasparraginasas de humano, de falvobacterium y de e.Coli, junto con los datos sobre secuencias de amino\u00e1cidos de asparraginasas de lupinus, se propone que la estructrua de las enzimas asparraginasas de plantas consiste en un heterotetr\u00e1mero compuesto por dos cadenas alfa y dos cadenas beta. El origen de estas dos cadenas consistir\u00eda en una rotura autoproteol\u00edtica de una preprote\u00edna original.  estudios de expresi\u00f3n utilizando plantas trasng\u00e9nicas de a.Thaliana, transformadas con un fragmento del promotor del gen asnasa1 fusionado al gen gus, han indicado que asnasa1 se expresa principalmente en zonas en desarrollo con alta demanda de nitr\u00f3geno.
