La ausencia de b altero la infeccion e invasion por rhizobium. Se dispararon los mecanismos de defensa de la planta y la bacteria se vio obligada a invadir por roturas de paredes y membranas, fragiles debido a la ausencia de b.  durante su maduracion, el nodulo sufrio degeneracion de paredes y membranas, inestables por la falta de b, conduciendo a una estructura senescente y no fijadora de n2.  asimismo, se ha estudiado una interaccion b\/ca en relacion con la fijacion de n2 en cianobacterias y en simbiosis.
