En la presente tesis se ha estudiado la regulacion por ampc de la enzima que hidroliza los esteres de colesterol: la colesterol esterasa neutra (cen), empleando como modelo de estudio el del macrofago derivado de monocito humano en cultivo. Se ha desarrollado ademas un metodo nuevo de valoracion de colesterol por hplc aplicable a cultivos celulares, con el que se ha estudiado la evolucion de contenido de colesterol durante la maduracion de los m0 humanos.  los resultados obtenidos muestran que, a diferencia de lo que sucede en los m0 de origen murino, como los de la linea j774, en los m0 derivados de monocitos humanos la c.E.N. No se activa por ampc, encontrandose incluso un efecto inhibidor de dicho compuesto sobre la desaparicion de esteres de colesterol en este tipo celular. En vista de estas discrepancias, se realizo un estudio de la expresion de la lipasa sensible a hormonas (hsl) por tecnicas de biolog\u00eda molecular (western but, northern blot, pcr) encontrandose que dicha enzima esta presente en los m0 j774, pero no en los humanos, por lo que la actividad c.E.N.
