Se ha descrito un metodo general de sintesis de x-hidroxisulfonas x,b-insaturadas que pueden detenerse enantiomericamente puras mediante resolucion enzimatica.  estas se preparan por condensacion de sulfinil sulfinil metanos con aldehidos enolizables. Se han desarrollado tambien metodos altamente estereoselectivos en la adicion conjugada de nucleofilos (fundamentalmente organoliticos y cupratos) que permiten preparar aductos sin y anti.  adicionalmente se ha podido desarrollar un metodo iterativo para la preparacion estereo y enantioselectiva de cadenas polipropionicas por transformacion del grupo sulfonilo en un grupo formilo en los aductos obtenidos previamente.
