Se ha constatado que dicha defosforilacion es dependiente de la presencia de ca++ extracelular. Asimismo se ha concluido que dicha fosfoproteina (pp65) se encuentra asociada a la membrana de las vesiculas sinapticas y que tal asociacion se establece mediante una interaccion hidrofobica. El residuo fosforilado en pp65 es serina, sugiriendose que puede poseer varios sitios de fosforilacion. Pp65 es una proteina de recambio de fosfato muy rapido; pkc y calcineurina podrian intervenir en el mantenimiento de su nivel basal de fosforilacion. Tambien se ha podido constatar que las deficiencias en fosforilacion de proteinas (y entre ellas pp65) observadas en ratas de 24 meses se encuentran ya presentes en sinaptosomas de animales de 9 meses
