Se ha postulado un modelo de actuacion para la proteina ftsa basado en su capacidad de unir atp y de ser un blanco de fosforilacion. Este modelo explicaria el caracter esencial en la vida de la celula, y predecir su estructura tridimensional. Tambien se ha determinado que la proteina ftsz es un factor limitante de la division celular, aunque no es el unico. La expresion de este gen ha sido estudiada mediante tecnicas de biolog\u00eda molecular y cirugia genetica, determinandose que presenta una transcripcion oscilatoria a lo largo del ciclo celular.  por ultimo se ha determinado la localizacion celular de la proteina ftsq y la importancia de su dominio hidrofobico tanto en la localizacion como en la funcionalidad de esta
