Cuatro han sido las principales lineas de trabajo: analizar, a un nivel teorico, el papel que desempe\u00f1a el transporte, y en especial las infraestructuras viarias, dentro del proceso de formacion y maduracion del planeamiento urbano; describir los principales hitos en la formacion de la \u00ab\u00bbciudad en la carretera\u00bb\u00bb, es decir, de las nuevas formas urbanas surgidas a partir de la generalizacion del uso del automovil; analizar la relacion entre planeamiento urbano, red viaria y periferia en el caso concreto de Madrid, y analizar en detalle el proceso de formacion de un corredor concreto la n-ii en Madrid, y el paisaje urbano resultante. La investigacion se estructura en seis capitulos, ademas de unas conclusiones finales: \u00ab\u00bbla carretera en el planeamiento y el desarrollo urbano\u00bb\u00bb vias rapidas y ciudad: elementos
