Para ello se han utilizado diversos parametros de medida de la enfermedad, con el objeto de poder sistematizar los da\u00f1os que produce el hongo verticillium dahliae en las plantas del genero capsicum. Las experiencias se realizaron en diferentes ambientes y epocas, obteniendose que las inoculaciones en camara climatica, las temperaturas bajas y las realizadas en primavera y oto\u00f1o resultaron las mas eficaces para la evaluacion de la resistencia del pimiento a verticillium.  se ha detectado como unico mecanismo de resistencia, la capacidad de la planta en localizar al hongo en la parte inferior (cuelo y raiz).  debido a los bajos niveles de resistencia presentes en c. Annuum se han estudiado las barreras a la hibridacion existentes entre esta especie y las otras cuatro cultivadas, comprobandose la efectividad en la transmision de la resistencia entre las diferentes especies del genero capsicum. Se propone un modelo poligenico de herencia de la resistencia, que seria el mas simple de los posibles y en el que estarian implicados tres genes de resistencia mas dos genes
