Nicotiana tabacum, datara metel y duboisia h\u00edbrida, que son productoras de alcaloides derivados de n-metilputrescina. El inter\u00e9s de estas \u00faltimas especies se debe a que constituyen la fuente natural de alcaloides trop\u00e1nicos, compuestos que son ampliamente utilizados en medicina como anticolin\u00e9rgicos. El an\u00e1lisis molecular del dna de las ra\u00edces revel\u00f3 la importancia de la integraci\u00f3n de los genes aux1, ags y mas del pri de agrobacterium en el genoma de las c\u00e9lulas transformadas  adem\u00e1s, y dado el inter\u00e9s comercial de estos compuestos, se ha intentado mejorar su bioproducci\u00f3n en cultivo in vitro mediante t\u00e9cnicas de ingenieria metab\u00f3lica, concretamente y dado que estos alcaloides tambi\u00e9n derivan, como hemos mencionado, de la n-metilputrescina, se ha introducio el gen del tabaco que codifica para la n-metilputrescina transferasa(pmt) en el genoma de las c\u00e9lulas de d. Metel y del h\u00edbrido de duboisia, y se ha provocado su sobreexpresi\u00f3n en los cultivos de ra\u00edces transformadas de ambas especies. con ello se ha logrado mejorar la producci\u00f3n de alcaloides en nicotina tabacum y en datura metel. Por el contrario, en el h\u00edbrido de duboisia, la formaci\u00f3n de alcaloides trop\u00e1nicos se ve tambi\u00e9n limitada en pasos posteriores al catalizado por la enzima n-metilputrescina
