El primero trata acerca del origen del conocimiento de los primeros principios especulativos, destacando su origen inductivo y rechazando una concepcion innatista de los mismos. En el segundo capitulo se intenta establecer el estatuto epistemologico del habito de los primeros principios, como tambien se explicita en que consiste el conocimiento habitual de los principios y de que manera este influye en el desarrollo del proceso discursivo. En el capitulo tercero se estudia la relacion que se establece entre los habitos intelectuales con respecto al conocimiento de los principios. La investigacion concluye con el estudio, mas pormenorizado, del principio de no contradiccion considerado como el primer principio metafisico.
