A pesar de estas similitudes, las alteraciones serotonergicas y peptidergicas tipicas de la ep no han podido reproducirse en primates tratados con mptp. En el presente trabajo, se ha estudiado el efecto de una exposicion cronica (5-10 meses) a mptp de monos titi, con el fin de reproducir con mayor fidelidad la naturaleza progresiva de la ep. La administracion cronica de mptp produjo una marcada toxicidad sobre sistemas dopaminergicos estriatales y extraestriatales de cerebro de monos titi (estriado, nucleo accumbens, hipotalamo, areas corticales, septum y amigdala), junto con una importante deplecion serotonergica en estas mismas areas.  por otra parte, disminuyo los niveles de los neuropeptidos sustancia p y met-encefalina en la substantia nigra y en estriado. Estas alteraciones son mas proximas a las caracteristicas de la ep en humanos, lo que plantea una alternativa valida al modelo clasico de mptp en primates tras administracion aguda de la
