Estos enzimas son similares a la exoglucanasa de s.Cerevisiae, en base a composicion de aminoacidos, secuencia aminoterminal e inmunorreactividad cruzada y pueden ser utilizados como relojes moleculares para establecer relaciones filogeneticas en levaduras.  se ha clonado un gen que expresa una actividad homologa a kex 2 y que esta implicado en el procesamiento de esta glucanasa.
